    Everyday care

    To ensure that your IMPRESSA or ENA produces top-quality coffee and functions correctly, the machine should be cleaned and maintained on a daily basis. You should proceed as follows:

    • Empty coffee grounds container and drip tray every day and rinse with hot water.
    • Clean and de-scale the machine or change the CLARIS plus filter cartridge when instructed to do so in the display.
    • Wipe the machine surface with a damp cloth or wipe the coloured front panels with the JURA caring cloth.

    Integrated cleaning programme

    The cleaning programme for your IMPRESSA Z5 can be started at any time in either of two ways:

    • With display prompt:

    If COFFEE READY / CLEAN lights up in the display, press the Rinse key very briefly until TRAY/ GROUNDS EMPTY is displayed.

    • Without display prompt:

    If COFFEE READY lights up in the display, press the rotary switch and hold it down until an acoustic signal is heard and FILTER appears. Now turn the rotary switch until MAINTENANCE lights up. Press the rotary switch again until RINSING THE MACHINE appears. Now turn the rotary switch immediately until CLEAN MACHINE lights up. Press the rotary switch again and the programme will start.

    • Note: if no further option is chosen in the Rinse menu within approx. 5 seconds, your IMPRESSA Z5 will revert to the message COFFEE READY.
    • Tip: after the cleaning process is over, remove the filling chute for the second variety of coffee and clean.

    Integrated de-scaling programme

    To start the de-scaling programme, do not switch off your IMPRESSA Z5.

    The de-scaling programme for your IMPRESSA Z5 can be started at any time in either of two ways:

    • With display prompt:

    If COFFEE READY DESCALE lights up in the display, press the Rinse key briefly until TRAY / GROUNDS EMPTY is displayed.

    • Without display prompt:

    If COFFEE READY lights up in the display, press the rotary switch and hold it down until an acoustic signal is heard and FILTER NO is displayed. Now turn the rotary switch until RINSE appears in the display. Press the rotary switch again until RINSE UNIT lights up. Turn the rotary switch again until DECALCYFIE UNIT is displayed. The programme is started by pressing the rotary switch.

    • Note: if no further option is chosen in the Rinse menu within approx. 5 seconds, your IMPRESSA Z5 will revert to the message COFFEE READY.

    If MACHINE IS DECALCIFYING is displayed for an extended period, the de-scaling programme was started with too much liquid or the water was replenished before the tank was empty.

    • Tip: start the de-scaling programme again with 0.6 l water. During the programme, the water tank is completely emptied. Please do not refill with water until you are prompted to do so in the display.

    If DECALCIFIE UNIT lights up even though the CLARIS filter cartridge has been inserted, the filter was not programmed.

    • Tip: remove the filter and run the de-scaling programme. Then insert a new filter and program the machine correctly.

    CLARIS filter change

    The filter change programme for your IMPRESSA Z5 can be started at any time in either of two ways:

    • With display prompt:

    If COFFEE READY FILTER-CHANGE lights up in the display, press the Rinse key briefly until INSERT FILTER PRESS BUTTON is displayed. Insert a new filter and then press the Rinse key again briefly. Your IMPRESSA Z5 will now begin to rinse the filter.

    • Without display prompt:

    If COFFEE READY lights up in the display, press the rotary switch and hold it down until an acoustic signal is heard and FILTER YES is displayed. Now turn the rotary switch until RINSE appears in the display. Press the rotary switch again until RINSE UNIT lights up. Turn the rotary switch again until FILTER-CHANGE is displayed. The programme is started by pressing the rotary switch.

    • Note: the water may be slightly discoloured, but this is not hazardous to health.
    • Tip: if the volume of drinks dispensed is low, the CLARIS filter cartridge should be replaced every two months, even if the prompt to do so does not appear in the display.

    Cleaning the 2@1 Cappuccino Frother

    Daily cleaning

    If you make Cappucino or milk you should clean the Cappuccino system daily.

    • Press Rotary Switch until FILTER NO or FILTER YES appears
    • Turn Rotary Switch until RINSE appears
    • Press Rotary Switch to start the maintenance menu
    • Turn Rotary Switch until CAPUCCINO CLEANING appears on the display
    • Position container (approx. 0,5 litre) under the One Touch
    • Cappuccino-Frother and press Rotary Switch
    • Fill second container with 2,5 dl of water
    • Add one cupful of JURA Cappuccino Cleaner
    • Dip milk suction tube in second container
    • The selection lever must not be in the «Steam» position!
    • Press maintenance to activate cleaning cycle
    • Display text: WATER FOR CAPPUCCINO
    • Fill second container with fresh water
    • Dip milk suction tube into this container
    • Press maintenance key

    The Cappuccino cleaning system stops automatically.

    Rinse the One Touch Cappuccino-Frother

    In addition to using the cappuccino cleaning system, you should also remove the One Touch Cappucino-Frother regularly and rinse it under running water.

    • Remove the One Touch Cappuccino-Frother from the IMPRESSA Z5/X5
    • Dismantle frother
    • Rinse all parts of the frother under running water
    • Reassemble the frother and reattach to machine
    • Please make sure that the aperture of the air supply (= red circle) is rinsed very carefully and is free of impureness. Please don’t clean the frother with sharp tools!

    Coffee taste and temperature

    Coffee taste:
    Are you unhappy with the taste of the coffee? If the coffee tastes unpleasant, this could be due to any of the following reasons:

    • The amount of powder has not been set to your taste. Please note that the amount of powder can be individually chosen for every draw-off.
    • The de-scaling programme was run with CLARIS filter cartridge inserted. In that case, take out the filter, insert a new one and program the machine accordingly.
    • Your coffee beans are "sour". Empty the bean container and fill it with fresh beans.

    Coffee temperature:
    Is your coffee not hot enough? If the coffee is not hot enough, this could be due to any of the following reasons:

    • The coffee temperature was not set to HIGH. Please note that the temperature can be individually programmed for each of the draw-off keys (to "LOW", "NORMAL" or "HIGH").
    • If you are not using a CLARIS filter cartridge, your machine may be furred. Check the water hardness, program this correctly and de-scale the machine.
    • Tip: heat up your cup!

    Milk foam

    If the milk does not go frothy, then the 2@1 Cappuccino Frother is blocked. Remove the frother and clean it thoroughly.

    Please note that the frother must always be cleaned thoroughly after a drink has been dispensed (with froth).

    • Tip: for cleaning purposes use the special Cappuccino cleaner.
    • Note: the fat content of the milk has no effect on the froth. Even skimmed milk can be used.
    • Tip: if you are not using a CLARIS filter cartridge, the de-scaling programme can be run, as lime deposits can also impede the drawing off of steam.

    Display and text messages

    CAPPU RINSE / COFFEE READY lights up.

    • 10 minutes after dispensing a Cappuccino or milk drink, the IMPRESSA Z5 asks for a Cappuccino rinse. Place a container under the 2@1 Cappuccino Frother and briefly press the Rinse key. The frother will be rinsed.

    DESCALE lights up although the CLARIS filter cartridge is in use.

    The CLARIS filter cartridge was inserted, but the machine was not appropriately programmed.

    • Tip: remove the filter from the water tank and run the de-scaling programme. Then insert a new filter and program the machine accordingly.

    MACHINE IS DECALCIFYING appears for an extended period.

    The de-scaling programme was started with too much liquid or the machine was replenished with fresh water too early. During the de-scaling programme, the water tank must be completely emptied.

    • Tip: run the de-scaling programme again with 0.6 l water.

    FILL SYSTEM / PRESS STEAM are displayed in turns.

    There is no water in the system (e.g. after a repair), the water tank and/or the CLARIS filter cartridge have not been correctly inserted.

    • Tip: Insert the water tank without filter and press the Steam key, then reinsert the CLARIS filter cartridge.

    COFFEE READY is displayed, but the coffee smells unpleasant.

    The de-scaling programme was run while the CLARIS filter cartridge was inserted, the machine was not programmed for filter operation.

    • Tip: remove the used filter, insert a new filter and program the machine

    Caramelised coffee beans

    To ensure that your machine provides satisfaction for a long time and to avoid repairs, please note that the grinder on your JURA coffee machine is not suitable for coffee beans that have been treated with additives (e. g. sugar) during or after roasting.

    Use of such coffee mixtures can result in damage to the grinder. Any repair costs incurred as a result are not covered by the warranty provisions.
